When was Harvey Cedars incorporated?

Harvey Cedars was formally incorporated as a borough on December 11, 1894 (following a referendum held on November 20, 1894). The borough was formed from portions of Union Township (today's Barnegat Township on the mainland), seceded by a group of men living near the Harvey Cedars Hotel. Capt. Isaac Jennings, owner of the Harvey Cedars Hotel, was named the first mayor. The borough operates under the Walsh Act with a Board of Commissioners — current Mayor Jonathan M. Imperiale (term ends December 31, 2027) serves also as Commissioner of Public Safety, alongside Commissioner Joseph F. Gieger (Public Works/Parks) and Commissioner Paul G. Rice (Revenue/Finance). Borough Hall is at 7606 Long Beach Boulevard.
