Willowbrook

 

Willowbrook is a neighborhood in the Mid-Island section of Staten Island, just north of New Springville. Prior to the building of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in 1964, it was mostly farmland. After the bridge was built, the farms were sold, the property divided, and residents constructed houses. Willowbrook homes are split level ranchers and high ranchers, however there are also many townhouses and semi-attached homes.

 

Willowbrook Park is part of the Greenbelt on Staten Island: 2,800 acres of designated parkland. Residents appreciate having Willowbrook property because it means they have access to this green oasis.

 

In terms of recreation, residents like to visit Willowbrook Park- a 164-acre area featuring baseball fields and a playground. 1999 was the year the Carousel for All Children made its home in Willowbrook Park. It is a Victorian carousel featuring fifty one hand-carved animals.
