Silver Lake Court, an amazing area of the neighborhood, has splendid green center medians, federal-style homes, large Tudor mansions, and homes overlooking Silver Lake Golf Course. Silver Lake is the only place in New York that has energy efficient two-family colonials.

 

Residents of Silver Lake enjoy restaurants, shopping, pharmacies, dry cleaners, and salons - all within walking distance. There is a good mixture of public and private schools, as well as two colleges and one university close by. Silver Lake is home to many amenities including: dance schools, music schools, churches, and a synagogue. Of course, the highlight for many people is Silver Lake Park - a peaceful sanctuary that also offers golfing and fishing.

 

A number of streets in the area have interesting stories attached to them. For example, Hart Boulevard is a street that was named after real estate developer, Cornelius Hart. He is credited with planning and building many houses in the area that was once known as Hart Park. Before Staten Island became a part of New York City, Cornelius Hart served as County Clerk and Police Commissioner. Another interesting street is Forest Avenue, which is completely pedestrian-friendly.
